Reading: We are practicing finding the main idea and supporting details of non-fictions texts. You can practice at home by reading books about animals, weather, places, or people for example!
The 2nd graders know three ways to show they understand the main idea. They can complete the sentence: "The main idea is...." and provide supporting details. They can create a thinking web with the main idea in the middle and the supporting details connecting to the outside. And finally, the third way we learned to show the main idea was creating a Main Idea House. Here is an example:
Math: Two- digit subtraction here we come! Homework is sent home daily unless there is a quiz or test. Re-grouping can be a difficult concept for some students so doing your homework is a great way to practice! Here are two ways we have learned to re-group:
Writing: We are beginning to write informative pieces. This goes hand-in-hand with our non-fiction reading unit.
